For us, this Summer 2002 is somewhat special — not because of the prolonged hit, but because of a sweet thrill in our mind. We’re getting an extra feel of relief like reaching the shore after a long Robinsonian journey. At the moment, we don’t want to preserve the thrill selfishly inside our mind which we do feel now. We want all of you AIUBians to get its share. And we’re pretty sure, you’ll keep feeling the thrill at a ‘compound rate’. Well, by now you know what we mean. As you go through the pages of VOICES, you’ll realize that you have every reason to be proud of being an AIUBian. You’ll discover—better to say, rediscover—your familiar environment in a new style in VOICES. It is your very close friends and teachers who have expressed themselves in their writings — essays, stories, poems, jokes and so on — and we’re hopeful that as readers, you’ll associate yourselves with these with vibrant enthusiasm. Many of you submitted various types of writings when we had announced its publication. A majority of those are quality writings undoubtedly; but we failed to provide you space in this issue. This issue? You are wondering? Hmm...from now on, VOICES will come out biannually with all the voices from every corner of AIUB. And we promise you; all of your writings will be there in the coming issues. So please don’t be disheartened even a wee bit. VOICES is valueless, and consequently voiceless, without you. We’re grateful to several individuals who have given their all out endeavor for this first official issue. Our Chairman Sir, as usual, has been the prime source of our inspiration. Then Hasan bhai and Ishtiaque bhai added the much needed boost to proceed – with our VC ma’m generating the ultimate momentum. Thus the war began, and our students Anuj [MIS], Zia [COE], Rajon [MIS] and Jami [CS] activated the different machineries [composing, scanning, sketching, graphic designing, pasting, printing etc.]. Unbelievable was the entire effort ! Who’d believe how these boys kept working from morning to night but never wiping out the smile from their faces! Also, the three editorial board members on their part were all support – sharing every pain with these boys. We only have a wild thank you guys! preserved for Shibly, Dr. Faheem and Ziarat [student of MIS]. In short, we were all like a family bearing the torment of a mother-to-be; and now this VOICES is in your hands, with all feel the relief of that mother who forgets her sufferings when she looks at her new born baby. Wao, VOICES is now a reality ! Have we been able to transfer to your minds our thrill? So raise your voices in pen and paper and pass it to voices@aiub.edu.
